Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is perhaps the most successful treatment in combating the common concerns of ageing skin. eDermastamp Microneedling device triggers the body's spontaneous healing process, stimulating cell proliferation and causing the formation of new collagen. This results in a thicker and more supple cellular matrix, and visibly younger looking skin.

In my 5 years of Microneedling experience, I have found the eDermastamp to be the most advanced type of Microneedling device available. Most patients notice a visible improvement after their first treatment with minimal downtime.

Who can benefit from Microneedling?

While Microneedling can benefit a variety of skin concerns, you are an ideal candidate if you have any of the following:

  • Acne and acne scars

  • Pigmentation (sun spots, melasma)

  • Enlarged pores

  • Dry, dull skin

  • Wrinkles and fine lines

  • C-section scars and stretch marks

Why eDermastamp?

  • Licensed by Health Canada: the eDermastamp is licensed by Health Canada. Be cautious with imitation products on the market that are not licensed by Health Canada so we recommend you do your research, to protect your health and safety.

  • Certified Medical-Grade Equipment: the eDermastamp is ISO13485 certified (certified medical device), meeting all standards for medical-grade equipment in manufacturing, materials, sterile packaging and more.

  • Safe Micro-needles: The medical-grade micro-needles of the eDermastamp are non-traumatic and respect the integrity of the epidermis and dermis. Poorer quality devices have needles that slice through tissue and risk causing traumatic skin, vessel and nerve damage.

  • Optimal Needle Count: eDermastamp is proven to have the optimal number of needles to ensure safe and effective penetration of the epidermis and dermis. Too many needles will compromise both the safety and comfort of the treatment.

How does it work?

eDermastamp’s surgical-grade micro-needles reach beyond the epidermis into the dermis, causing pin-point bleeding and triggering the body’s spontaneous healing response.

Within minutes, the perforation channels close and the healing cascade starts, invading the area with collage-producing fibroblasts and growth-promoting properties.

New organized collagen & elastin forms, bolstering form within, while the epidermis becomes thicker and more supple, each time a treatment is performed.

What can I expect from my first Microneedling appointment?

Prior to the treatment, Dr. Aisha Manji, ND will complete a detailed health history, a complaint-oriented physical exam, and will review your medications, supplements, topical creams and any allergies you may have, to ensure that Microneedling is safe and indicated for you. Treatment is individualized based on the assessment of your skin, and different needle depths will be used to ensure the most benefit for your concerns. Dr. Aisha will explain your treatment strategy, the treatment itself and will answer any questions you may have. Personalized post-treatment care will also be discussed.

The Initial Microneedling visit is 90 minutes long and includes the treatment itself. Follow-up visits are 60 minutes. Please note: avoid sun exposure for 1 week prior, avoid retinol creams for 24 hours prior, and avoid alcohol and any anti-inflammatory medications for 12 hours prior to your appointment.

Your face will be cleansed and numbed for 20 minutes using a Lidocaine cream. Microneedling is described as prickly feeling and the numbing cream ensures the treatment is quite comfortable. After disinfecting the skin, pure hyaluronic acid will be infused into the skin using the E-dermastamp device. After the treatment is completed, your skin will be flushed, like a mild sunburn for 24-48 hours.

Post-Treatment Care:

Is there any Down Time?

It is completely normal for your skin to look flushed for 24-48 hours after the microneedling treatment. Expect to experience some tenderness similar to a mild sunburn right after the treatment, though this improves within about 12 hours. Your body will continue to make and cross-link collagen and elastin for several weeks after the treatment, but you will notice smoother, healthier and more radiant skin immediately after each treatment.

  • For the first 48 hours, avoid exercise, saunas, hot tubs and tanning beds. Avoid strong sunlight and use sunscreen every day.
  • Avoid irritating products such as alpha/beta hydroxy acids, lactic acids and essential oils and avoid touching the face.
  • Avoid make-up for 24 hours. If necessary, use mineral make-up only.
  • Do not exfoliate for 3 days.

How many treatments do I need?

In general, we recommend starting with 3 sessions, 6 weeks apart. Most patients notice a visible improvement after their first treatment. In severe conditions (deep acne scars, deeper wrinkles, pigmentation), expect to start with 6-8 sessions.
